Conversion of the former RAFA Club building on Dacre Street, known as Elm House, was completed for Zonic Investments and it announced last autumn that it had agreed a partnership with Jaspers of Amble to introduce the Jaspers concept to Morpeth Ryan Humphrys is the head chef at Morpeth.

A reception was held last Thursday in advance of the opening that was attended by the Mayor, other members of the Morpeth Forum and other parties that were directly involved with the development of the premises so they could have a look around the new eaterie while sampling the various dishes on offer.

David Nicholson of Zonic Investments said on Tuesday that booking numbers are being limited initially as “the brand new team gets used to working together in harmony”.

He added: “I am excited to be involved with Ryan, who has earned an enviable reputation amongst his contemporaries, and I believe that he is the right person to help promote Morpeth as a food destination and put the town on the culinary map of the North East.

“The opening has gone well so far in the circumstances. We’ve received a lot of interest and there have been many positive comments about the restaurant on social media. We have an outside terrace on the ground floor and first floor, so hopefully the weather will improve and people will feel more confident in coming along to sit outside.

“It’s about giving people in the town and visitors an alternative choice for their dining options and I think people will be curious to see what we’ve done inside the building, as well as taste the food.”

Coun Bawn said: “I was really impressed by the Jaspers team.

“The food is amazing and the vision and craftsmanship shown in redeveloping this central Morpeth property is a real credit to David, Ryan and their team.

“As part of the Morpeth Forum, I also commend David and his team for their on-going engagement with us during the build and development process, working as team has certainly helped this project to flourish.

“I have no doubt that this will become an iconic Morpeth destination.”
