Margaret and Brian Moon.

The couple met when Brian was in his early days in the wholesale fruit trade, working at a local wholesaler.

Margaret applied for a clerical position with the company and got the job.

After getting together, their romance led to marriage – the ceremony took place at St John’s Church, Seaton Hirst, Ashington, on August 8, 1959.

They had both been educated at Bedlington Grammar School, but never knew each other then.

Brian’s wholesale career involved moving from Newcastle to Liverpool as a manager, opening a new business in Manchester then going back to the North East, where he subsequently became general manager for West Cumberland Farmers, selling to customers in the Northumberland and West Cumberland areas.

In the last 16 years of his working life, he was also chairman of the NE Wholesale Fruit, Veg and Flower Market Company.

Margaret is well known in Morpeth having worked for Tallantyres, Rutherfords and Boots.

Since retiring, she has become a patchwork quilter of renown and Brian formed an art group that now runs at Longframlington.

The Moons have lived at Espley for almost 40 years. They have two sons – David and Graham – and five grandchildren, and are blessed to see their families regularly.

They will celebrate their diamond wedding with family and friends at Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle.
