One part of the project, supported by Morpeth Town Council and Northumberland County Council, is to plant thousands of crocuses in a Field of Hope around the trees at Rotary Glade by the road between the Sun Inn and Deuchar Park. It will give a reminder every spring of those who have kept our communities going with care, services or support during Covid-19.

Morpeth Town Council is giving £500 towards the bulbs, with a matching £500 from local wealth management company The Morpeth Practice, St. James Place Wealth Management, of Castle Square.

Rhona Dunn, who is is leading fund-raising for the project, and Morpeth Rotary President Colin Dyson recently met at the Town Council NHS floral tribute at Rotary Glade with Mayor of Morpeth David Bawn and James Richfield of The Morpeth Practice to explain how the project will work.

The flowers will be a colourful yearly ‘thank you’ to the NHS, carers, emergency services, Armed Forces, delivery drivers, shop workers, postal staff, waste collectors, cleaners and all of the others who look after us.

A second part of the project is a refurbishment of the Teardrop Garden at Wansbeck General Hospital. The garden was opened in 1992 to be a calm and quiet place for patients, friends, family and staff who may be coping with anxiety, grief or loss.
