Glendale Show organisers cancel 2021 event 'with very heavy hearts' due to continued Covid-19 uncertainty

The Glendale Show, traditionally held on the August bank holiday Monday, has been called off due to continued Covid-19 concerns.

The popular Children’s Countryside Day, which had been scheduled for June and is also organised by the Glendale Agricultural Society, is also cancelled.

An official statement issued by Glendale Agricultural Society stated: ‘It is with very heavy hearts that the chairman Andrew Walton and the board of trustees of Glendale Agricultural Society have made the difficult decision to cancel the Children’s Countryside Day and Glendale Show.

‘We are sure you will understand that this decision has not been taken lightly. The current situation with Covid-19 and the uncertainty of how long it will take to get back to some form of ‘normality’ has made it impossible to run this year's events.

‘Whilst this news is disappointing for everyone, we are sure that you would agree that the health, safety and well-being of our, traders, competitors, members, sponsors, volunteers, visitors and local community is of paramount importance.’

The Northumberland County Show was also called off last month.

The Glendale Show, which has been held 127 times, attracted 12,000 visitors to the Wooler showfield the last time it took place in 2019 to take in the huge range of entertainment, stalls and livestock classes.

Children’s Countryside Day, which also fell victim to the pandemic last year, traditionally sees up to 1,650 children visiting from schools across Northumberland and North Tyneside to learn more about rural life.
