Performances of Repeat Signal, a 30-minute play, are available to view from this evening (Thursday) and it is free of charge thanks to funding from the government's Culture Recovery Fund.

When two teenagers sneak into a museum at night to make a film, they find more than they bargained for. Playing the role of the two teenagers are Sulin Hasso as Bibi and Jake Jarratt as Lucas.

The creative team behind Repeat Signal at Woodhorn Museum includes writer Tatty Hennessy and producer Lizzie Vogler. Joe Hufton is the director and it is being filmed by Newcastle-based Meerkat Films. Joe was appointed artistic director of November Club in autumn 2020.

He said: “We’re really interested in how we can use technology to push the boundaries of what a ‘play’ is. We want to explore using film and streaming to take theatre out of theatre buildings.

“We want to turn more places into stages and to create a site-specific story that happens out there in the world, not in an auditorium. This digital project is the start of something new for November Club and we’re delighted to be working with some talented freelancers who are new to the company. We’ve also included the voices of young people from Northumberland.”

The Bibi character is an aspiring film-maker, making films to showcase her new life in Northumberland to send to her brother back home.

The synopsis for the play includes the following: ‘Lucas wants to make sure she’s capturing his home county fully – not just the castles and coastline, but the real things that make it special.

‘And so, one night he sneaks her into his favourite museum for an up-close, behind the scenes look at his town’s past. The perfect setting for the ultimate video.

‘But there’s someone – something – else in the museum tonight. Something from the past. And it’s not staying quiet.’

Performances will stream Thursday to Sunday at 7.30pm until Sunday, June 27, as well as a weekend matinee at 2.30pm. You need to sign-up at register.novemberclub.org.uk to watch the play.
