Refurbishment of visitor centre complete

Around £300,000 has been spent completely modernising the facility. This has included installing a new roof, refitting and expanding the café and putting in bi-fold doors to give visitors fantastic views across the surrounding countryside.

And while the café is not yet open for sit down guests, it has re-opened with a limited takeaway menu – meaning visitors can get drinks and snacks while at the park.

Around £130,000 had already been invested in a new play park at Druridge Bay, while work is also on-going to create camping and caravan facilities on site.

Coun Glen Sanderson, Northumberland County Council cabinet member for the environment and local services, said: “Our country parks are wonderful places with something for everyone to enjoy and over recent months in particular have been the source of enjoyment of nature, open space and simple fresh air at a difficult time.

“We have invested in recent years to bring much-needed improvements and we are going to continue – improving the car parks at QEII Country Park in Ashington and at Plessey Woods are our next projects.”

Druridge Bay county councillor Scott Dickinson added: “I welcome this investment at Druridge Bay and other country parks.

“The county council has worked over a number of years to bring this investment, which will benefit locals and tourists alike.”
