Plenty of treats despite change of venue

The Morpeth tradition of handing out oranges on Easter Monday still went ahead, but the venue had to be changed from Carlisle Park to the Town Hall as a result of the poor weather.

It goes back to when the fruit was considered to be a real luxury and was given as an Easter gift to the children as a treat.

However, Morpeth Town councillors and staff gave out more than just oranges this year as the usual outdoor games were replaced by an Easter egg hunt, with chocolate eggs for the winners.
