Free insulation against the cold

RESIDENTS in Northumberland have been urged to come out from the cold and take advantage of free home insulation.

Berwick MP Sir Alan Beith is calling on constituents to winter-proof their homes and help save hundreds of pounds on energy bills.

Figures show that across the UK about £1 in every £4 spent on heating is wasted because of a lack of adequate insulation, while there are six million cavity walls unfilled and more than 10 million lofts unlagged.

Now British Gas is offering customers the chance to insulate their homes free.

Sir Alan said: “We all know that household budgets are stretched and that energy costs are rising. Households can take some simple steps which help them use less energy and save money.

“If people across the Berwick upon Tweed constituency take action and get the free energy efficiency measures that they are entitled to, then they can save themselves hundreds of pounds every year.

“If they act now, they can be ready long before winter.”
