REPAIR work to a Ponteland Park bridge will be carried out over the next few weeks.
A survey had been carried out and designs commissioned by Ponteland Town Council to replace the steel beams at the smaller of the two timber footbridges as the existing equipment is badly corroded.
The authority agreed to go with one of the four quotes supplied so work could get under way. Plans are being made for similar repairs to the larger footbridge in the next financial year.
At the same meeting, councillors appointed a contractor to replace the coping stones by the bridge next to Waitrose that had been vandalised over a number of years.
The Environment Agency had recently removed the damaged stones from the river.
