Popular farm centre added to bus route
One of Northumberland's most popular visitor attractions will be easier to visit after a service extension was commissioned by the county council.
The S1 bus, which runs from Morpeth Bus Station to Stannington and stops at the town’s railway station, now also goes to Whitehouse Farm Centre.
General manager Karen Lovatt approached her ward councillor Ian Lindley for support to get the public transport link to the site up and running.
The bus service, run by PCL Travel, started its new route in time for the first week of the summer holidays and it has already seen a number of eager passengers jump on board to visit the centre.
Coun Lindley said: “Whitehouse Farm Centre is a great attraction and an asset to the area, so it’s great that we have been able to put the service in place to make it easier for residents to visit.
“The buses have already proved to be popular with residents and I’m positive the new route will increase visitor numbers and benefit tourism in Northumberland.”
The buses leave from Stand 8 at Morpeth Bus Station at 8.40am, 9.40am, 11.35pm and 3.50pm and leave from Whitehouse Farm at 9.15am, 9.50am, 12.05pm and 16.20pm to go back into Morpeth.
To celebrate the extension to the service, visitors to the centre can save £1 per person on standard day tickets when presenting their S1 bus ticket.
Mrs Lovatt said: “This new bus service will make it so much easier for many to visit Whitehouse Farm and the other businesses based at the centre.
“During the summer we have a full programme of daily activities, including bottle feeding calves, and the bus timings will enable these visitors to enjoy a full day out.
“We are delighted to be working with PCL Travel and thank Coun Ian Lindley, along with Northumberland County Council, for their support.”
Adult bus tickets cost £2 for a single journey or £3 return. Tickets cost £1 for a single journey or £1.50 return for children aged five to 14. Children under five travel for free.
Journey times can vary between 10 minutes and 30 minutes depending on the route.
