Positive feedback for centre plans
A positive response has been received after plans for the £500,000 redevelopment of Druridge Bay Community Centre went on show, East Chevington Parish Council was told.
The latest proposals for the Hadston venue were displayed at an information event last week and Coun Scott Dickinson told parish councillors on Monday that feedback had been good.
Proposed developments include a two-storey extension of the community centre to provide a fitness suite on the ground floor and a new space and ring upstairs for the boxing club.
The new gym will be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art fitness equipment and an instructor will be employed to provide advice and guidance on health and fitness training programmes.
The aim of extending, refurbishing and reconfiguring the centre is to breathe new life into the complex and provide much-needed social and leisure activities for local residents of all ages and the wider Druridge Bay community.
Coun Scott Dickinson said: “More than 120 people came to the information event and of these, 98 filled in a form and all the comments were in support. A lot of people said they intend to use the centre.”
The project is being funded by the county council’s capital programme and if approved, it is hoped that work on the site can start in June with an expected completion date of November this year.
