Praise for the street pastors’ services

Members of Kirkley WI were privileged to hear from Mike Johnson about his work in Newcastle as a member of the Street Pastors’ support group.

The groups are formed from four religious denominations in Northumberland and North Tyneside. In bands of three or four, and mixed genders, they patrol from 10pm to 4am. They carry an emergency rucksack with blankets, water, energy bars, flipflops and a first aid kit. Their aim is to console and counsel from a Christian ethos.

Giving the vote of thanks, Margaret Neil commended them for their service to the community.

The competition for an item about Old Newcastle was won by Alison Carins. In the business meeting the speaker for April was confirmed as Iain Robson.
