Putting elderly needs in focus

Lancaster Park WI

Having warmly welcomed WI Adviser Brenda Houliston, the meeting commenced with the singing of Jerusalem accompanied on the piano by member Betty Pawson.

Members were advised that the current committee was willing to stand for another year. Reports were given outlining the variety of activities, speakers and demonstrators that had been enjoyed over the last 12 months. Programme planner Carol Napper presented a well-researched list of speakers for the coming year.

A final reminder about the coach trip to the Kiplin Hall event was given, and members were invited to the group meeting to be held in June at Stannington.

The highlight will be a fashion show with a difference. Rosie Walker and Pauline Simpson were re-elected as joint Presidents.

Brenda Houliston then gave a short address on the increasing care needs of the elderly, sick and disabled, and highlighted the importance of respite care for carers. This related to the Resolution due to be discussed at the AGM at the Albert Hall in this, the WI centenary year.

The annual meeting was brought to a close with tea.
