Rail travellers to get their say

MORPETH residents will have the chance to have their say about train services next week.

The South East Northumberland Rail User Group (SENRUG) has organised a public meeting at the Town Hall on Thursday with train operator East Coast’s Head of Communications Neal Smith.

The company operates the service from London to Edinburgh and Aberdeen and has recently announced timetable changes to take effect next month.

They include more trains stopping at Morpeth, the ability to travel from Morpeth and arrive in London by 9.40am each week and to return later on a direct train.

The meeting will include a question and answer session.

SENRUG Chairman Dennis Fancett said: “We are pleased with the new timetable and the additional services, but many people know it wasn’t always going to be like this.

“The earlier drafts of the new timetable actually suggested something worse than the current service for all the Northumberland stations, and the service we are getting is the result of intense lobbying from a number of parties, plus of course listening from East Coast.”

The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
