Residents clean up their community

In support of the Great British Spring Clean initiative that was supported by organisations such as Keep Britain Tidy, residents in the Middle Greens area of Morpeth came together on a day earlier this month to go around the neighbourhood, starting from The Green on Alexandra Road, and pick up rubbish from the roads and footpaths.

The theme of this litter pick was ‘One hour – one bag’ so volunteers did not need to spend too much of their time on the job. However, in just that short amount of time, more than 10 bin bags were filled.

Anthony Bell of Northumberland County Council agreed to arrange collection of the bags.

One of Middle Greens Community Association’s aims is to make the area a clean and attractive place to live and visit. Its next litter collection event will be held in June.

The volunteers pictured are Janet, Sylvia, Charlotte, Jez and James. Others who are not in the photo include Alasdair, Clare, Mandy, Simon and Vanessa.
