Rise in Pont allotment fee

ALLOTMENT holders in an area of Ponteland will have a small rise in their annual fee.

The charge to use the plots in Prestwick will go up by £1 for the next financial year (2013/14) after it was agreed by a majority of Ponteland Town councillors.

The increase will help to close the gap between the works and maintenance budget and the income from the fees.

At the December meeting of the authority, rises of £1 and £5 were proposed but they were defeated when it came to the voting process – a few members were against the £1 increase because they felt it was too small.

However, it remained on the agenda because the majority of councillors voted against keeping prices the same.
