The A197 at Clifton near Morpeth was closed for a short period this morning following a collision involving three cars.

Police were called out at 8.23am and after discovering that some diesel had spilled onto a section of the road, it was closed for about an hour whilst a team from Northumberland County Council cleaned it up.

A police spokeswoman said there was damage to the vehicles only.

In a separate incident, a two-vehicle collision on the A197 by the Sun Inn at about 9.20am caused minor injuries.
