Roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland this week

Highways England is planning the following roadworks on the A1 this week, starting today.

Morpeth: There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of day-time and night-time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24-hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

Brownieside: There will be a 24-hour contraflow in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Sunday, August 21.

West Moor to Coquet: There will be traffic signals in place east and westbound for survey work. This will take place on Wednesday, August 17, and Thursday, August 18, between 8pm and 6am.

Further afield on the A1:

Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead: From today (Monday, August 15) to Friday, August 19, there will be a lane closures north and southbound between junctions 67 and 71, with various slip road closures. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early September.

Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, Newcastle: There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. There will be weekly night time northbound closures planned for some months to monitor and maintain the bridging plates.

Junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar: There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From today (Monday, August 15) to Friday, August 19, there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside: There will be various phases of overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24-hour 30mph speed restriction. There will be overnight closures today (Monday, August 15) and tomorrow (Tuesday, August 16) between 8pm and 6am between Holystone and Wallsend to install the narrow lines.

A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham: There will be various phases of lane closures east and westbound for maintenance work. This will take place until mid-October 24 hours a day.

A66 Ravensworth, North Yorkshire: There will be traffic signals in place east and westbound for survey work. This will take place today (Monday, August 15) and tomorrow (Tuesday, August 16) between 8pm and 6am.

A66 Teesside Park to A19: There will be a full closure of the westbound carriageway between the A19 and Teesside Park for resurfacing work until Monday, August 22. The work will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 6am.
