Morpeth Rotary President Rhona Dunn presents the silver salver to Michael Duffy and the team.

Every year Morpeth Rotary hosts a grand contest of knowledge between four service organisations in the town.

They are Morpeth and District Soroptimists, Morpeth Lions, Morpeth Inner Wheel and Morpeth Rotary. Rotary has a reputation for fielding a team of gallant losers, but that all changed this time.

The neutral question master, Rotary member Alan Barron, set a high standard for questions. There were six rounds of general knowledge, followed by a round of ‘dingbats’ that mystified teams and audience alike.

Rotary won by two points from the Soroptimists, Lions came third and Inner Wheel was one point behind.

Team captain, retired headteacher Michael Duffy, accepted the silver salver from Rotary President Rhona Dunn. Other team members were teacher Mary Kendall, Professor Andrew Hamnett and retired bank manager Alan Clark.

All teams enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to next year’s challenge.
