SEARCH: Seeking our old instructor
I am trying to trace John Clayton, who came from originally, and is believed to have retired to Morpeth.
This is because next year it will be 50 years since, as a weapons instructor, he took our squad through Royal Marines Commando training and a number of us are organising a reunion to mark that anniversary of our enlistment, which we very much want him to attend.
John was known throughout the Royal Marines as Gadge Clayton and was a much respected instructor, who went on to make Sergeant Major before retiring from the regular Corps after 22 years to become a careers advisor within the Directorate of Naval Recruiting.
He was thought of as one of the hardest, but fairest of the team, who led us through 34 weeks of gruelling training to be awarded the coveted Commando Green Beret.
Our significant efforts to trace Gadge over several months have failed and so we appeal to anyone who has any information they think will help us to locate him to contact me at email@example.com
