A SECTION of road on the A696 at Kirkharle will be closed from 8pm tonight (December 1) until about 6am tomorrow.
The closure from its junction with the B6342 (Five Lane Ends to Shiel Hill) to its junction with the C195 (Ridsdale Junction to District Boundary) at Knowesgate is to assist with the recovery of an articulated lorry after it went off road yesterday near the Kirkharle crossroads at 4.40pm.
The vehicle went through a fence and came to rest in a field. The driver was unhurt and no other vehicles were involved.
The closure will be manned and it will be removed as soon as it is safe to do so, in the meantime a signposted diversion will be in place.
The alternative route for vehicles will be west along the C195 Ridsdale Junction to District Boundary road, turning left and heading south along the A68.
Traffic will be then directed left along the B6342 Five Lane Ends to Shiel Hill. Follow this road in an easterly direction to rejoin the A696 and vice versa.
