A Northumberland resident couldn’t believe her luck when a soapstar picked her to win a special Coronation Street prize.
Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully in the ITV soap, visited the Nobles Amusement Arcade on Woodhorn Road, Ashington, yesterday to meet customers, pose for photographs and give away an all-expenses trip for two to Manchester, which will include a visit to the show’s set.
Kathleen Angus, of Westmorland Avenue, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, was pulled out as the winner. She said: “I’m delighted to have won the main prize and now I’ll have to decide whether I take my husband or my daughter. I love watching Coronation Street and never miss an episode. It was really nice to meet Antony – he’s a lovely lad.”
Antony, who plays a barman and knicker machinist in the soap, was in the North East to visit the company’s arcades in North Shields, Ashington and Byker. Fifty customers from each venue entered a competition to meet Antony and be entered into the free prize draw. The main prize, for two people, includes the opportunity to visit one of Nobles mega arcades with £100-worth of freeplays.
Antony, who has just recently signed a new contract to stay on the set until next summer, said: “It was lovely to meet everyone in Ashington and they all made me feel very welcome. I would just like to say a big well done to Kathleen for winning the main prize draw and hope she enjoys touring the set. I’ve told her she can celebrate by having a drink on me in the Rovers.”
Antony has won a number of awards including Best Newcomer and Best Actor and has starred in theatre. Cotton also appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and won the second series of ITV’s Soapstar Superstar.
