Society gets visit from pharmacist

South East Northumberland Branch Of The MS Society

MEMBERS of the South East Northumberland branch of the MS Society met last week for the October meeting when our speaker was Mohammed Omar Sarwar (M Pharm), who is the community pharmacist at New Line Pharmacy, Stakeford.

Mr Sarwar gave a very detailed introduction and overview of multiple sclerosis and the current treatments and their side-effects, and the symptoms of MS.

He also looked at signposting to alternative therapies, such as complementary holistic therapies, exercise, physiotherapy, diet and symptom management in general.

Finally, he looked at and shared with us the role of the community pharmacist – an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, the variety of services on offer, dosette boxes, confidential advice and access to a pharmacist with no appointment.

Mr Sarwar was thanked for being with us and giving such an informative talk by the Chairman of the branch, John Sanderson.

The next meeting will be held at St James’s Hall on Wednesday, November 14.

This will be a musical evening when all are welcome to join us.
