BUDDING gardeners can find out more about plants and animals at a Morpeth garden centre.

Free seed planting workshops will be set up for youngsters at Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre this weekend.

And to kick off the Easter holidays, staff from The Sanctuary Wildlife Care Centre in Ulgham will visit the outlet to show some of their rescue animals and raise funds.

The seed workshops take place from 10.30am to 11.30am, and from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, on Saturday and Sunday. Any children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

General Manager Roger Wale said: “At the workshops, children can create a cress head and pot up a pumpkin, both of which they can take home.”

The Sanctuary volunteers will be at the garden centre on Monday, from noon to 3pm, as part of National Pet Month.

There will also be children’s competitions and a tombola, with tickets costing £1 each and proceeds going towards The Sanctuary’s running costs.
