Speak out to stop clever scams from spreading

A Morpeth-based Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is calling on residents to help stop more people falling prey to clever cons.

As part of Scams Awareness Month, DAWN CAB is encouraging people to report suspicious activities, get advice if they think they have been duped and warn others to help stop scams from spreading.

Figures show that less than five per cent of victims of such fraudulent activity – including dodgy doorstep double glazing sales, online investment offers and letters asking people to pay a fee in order to claim their winnings from a prize draw they did not enter – report it to the authorities.

Staff are also recommending residents to wait to get their facts together before parting with their money or personal information.

For more information about the advice available, call DAWN CAB on 01670 511516. If you have been scammed, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 1232040 to help stop it happening to others.
