A FEMALE footballer has proved she is top of the league after scoring the Miss Northumberland 2012 title.
Stephanie Loraine swapped her studs for high heels to be crowned the winner of the beauty and personality contest at a glitzy final on Friday.
The 19-year-old, from Whickham, who represents Newcastle United Women’s Football Club, said: “It’s a huge honour and I’m thrilled to follow in the footsteps of the inaugural Miss Northumberland winner, Laura Hickey, and I am looking forward to representing the county.”
She netted a host of prizes and will compete in next year’s Miss England contest.
The final was staged at Newton Hall, at Newton-by-the-Sea, and the 18 contestants battled it out over a number of rounds, including a Team GB Olympic cat-walk routine.
Others to do well on the night were 19-year-old Robyn Preston, from Belford, and Nasrene Harrison, 18, from Gateshead, who were both named as runners-up.
Nasrene was also the Miss Sports Wear winner.
Tamlyn Nadine Smith, 17, from Ponteland, was voted Miss Popularity.
Jodie Weatheston, 17, from Ashington, was St Oswald’s Miss Charity Fund-raiser. She also won the Miss Eco-dress award, impressing the judges with an outfit made out of newspapers, including the Morpeth Herald.
Stephanie Grieve, 17, from Alnwick, took the Miss Photogenic title, winning a contract with Glamrus Model Agency.
The event, in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice, was organised by One Voice Productions Ltd, which once again teamed up with the Morpeth Herald and its sister papers.
Simon Robertson, of OVP, said: “I’d like to congratulate our 2012 winner, Stephanie Loraine, as well as all the girls involved.”
“Laura Hickey raised the bar for Northumberland and I’m sure Stephanie will follow in her footsteps.
“Stephanie has a phenomenal sports background and this being an Olympic year; she represents the best qualities Northumberland has to offer.
“Her profile sits well with health, fitness, personality and beauty aspects associated with Miss England.
“Stephanie will have a life-changing year and we look forward to working with her over the next 12 months.”
