MORPETH councillors have warmly welcomed plans for a floodwater storage area.
An application has been submitted by the Environment Agency to build the system in Mitford as part of the wider flood alleviation scheme for the area.
And while the site of the storage reservoir falls outside Morpeth Town Council’s boundary, members of its Planning and Transport Committee will write in support of the work.
Coun Les Cassie said: “We should write very specifically welcoming this application and give it our strong support.”
The committee will hear detailed plans for the Morpeth town centre part of the scheme at its next meeting on Wednesday when a planning officer will attend to answer any queries.
The applications will be determined by Northumberland County Council.
