AN annual summer event has been washed out by the weather for the first time in its history.
Heavy rain put paid to Morpeth’s Picnic In The Park on Sunday, making it the first cancellation of the event in 12 years.
It was decided to cancel the picnic on Sunday morning after consultation with some of the organisers of activities, such as pony rides, as the rain showed no signs of letting up and the soggy ground in Carlisle Park would have posed a safety risk.
The weather did brighten up in the afternoon, but it was too late.
However, the Greater Morpeth Development Trust, which organises the picnic, hopes to reschedule it for the autumn when it can link in with Heritage Open Days.
