STRIKE: A call out to miners' wives

This is a call out for a photographic and audio project focusing on miners' wives who came out in support of their striking husbands through '˜Women Again Pit Closures' during the 1984-85 miners' strike.

The project will look at those who went into politics or continued the fight against social injustice instead of returning to their previous role of housewives.

It will record their accounts and photograph each person standing outside their open front door, symbolising these women opening the door to change and allowing it into their lives after the strike ended.

I believe the accounts of the women involved in the strike are important and need to be preserved for future generations to hear and remember our industrial heritage.

I have recorded one story so far of Sian James, from South Wales, but am looking for others to share theirs.

Anyone wanting to share their experiences of the strike is asked to contact me through the project’s website or call 07898 272740.
