Two events which took place in Alnwick in the run-up to Christmas were hailed as successes.

Mayor of Alnwick, Bill Grisdale, said that the lantern parade, from the Alnwick Garden up through the town to the Market Place, pictured above, ‘went off very well and we hope it comes back next year’.

Coun Gordon Castle added: “It was much better than I thought it was going to be.” He underlined the fact that the county council did not charge for the road closure on the day, which had been discussed by the town council at its December meeting.

Meanwhile, Coun Grisdale described the town’s civic carol service, which raised £248 for HospiceCare North Northumberland, as ‘an excellent night’.
