Successful summer season for skier Amy

North Northumberland skier Amy Stokoe has made a surprising start to the summer race calendar.

Amy, who is 11, comes from Widdrington, and goes to school in at the Dr Thomlinson’s C of E Middle School, in Rothbury.

She is currently ranked second in the Snowsport Scotland Alpine Winter Series U12 girls category, with races held on snow in Scotland across various mountain ranges

But more recently, she has been excelling in the summer programme, which started in April when she attended the English Schools Ski Association (ESSKIA) Primary Squad Camp in Landgraaf, Holland, where she trained with children from throughout England who had also been selected to the 2016 squad.

This was followed by an ESSKIA training day, held at Silksworth, Sunderland, which was attended by children from throughout the north east of England.

Amy’s summer racing season began with the first round of the British Indoor series at Chill Factor, Manchester, when she finished fourth, and then, on her birthday, in round two, she was second in the U12 girls event.

The third round of the series was held at Braehead in Glasgpw just two weeks ago when she finished in fourth place.

At the Ravens Club National at Silksworth, Amy was first in the U12s girls, and she followed this up with a second place in the NESA (North East Ski Association) club race,
