A Morpeth family is giving people the chance to put their knowledge to the test and enjoy a fun evening for a good cause.

The second Big Fat Morpeth Pub Quiz, which has a top prize of £300, bonus prizes, a raffle, domino cards, a buffet and a bottle draw, is the latest fund-raising event organised by relatives of Gary Hedley.

It will be held tomorrow at The New Riverside Lodge, High Stanners. Doors open at 7pm.

Gary and best friend Lee Pollard, also of Morpeth, died following a one-vehicle collision near Guide Post on November 19, 2015.

Following his death, family members sent more than 60 special Gary’s Gift choir robes to the village in Fiji where Gary stayed in the summer of 2014 and handed over backpacks filled with useful items for the village’s children during an emotional visit last November.

The proceeds from the quiz will go towards the costs of buying a few laptops for the village’s school.

Gary’s mum Jennifer said: “A total of 24 teams have signed up so far, others can come along on the evening. Questions cover a few different categories and there will be picture and music rounds.

“We’re also looking to send about 200 Morpeth Town FC strips and waterproofs to the village. Anyone with suggestions for getting such a package to Fiji as cheaply as possible can email me – ironing-maidens@hotmail.co.uk”

It is a maximum of six per team and entry is £2 per person.
