Churches in the Parish of Morpeth are running some free events and activities tomorrow and Saturday and at some of them, people can chat with one of a number of bishops from the North of England.

They are heading north as part of Archbishop of York John Sentamu’s Pathways Mission for the Diocese of Newcastle, beinglaunched on Holy Island this afternoon.

Pupils at Stobhillgate First School and All Saints First School will be the first people to meet Bishop Chris Edmondson and youth workers Rob Jones and Sam Corley at special assemblies tomorrow.

Classic funk, soul and disco tunes will be performed by Groove Central Station at the New Riverside Lodge tomorrow evening.

The free gig will include a collection in aid of the Mayor of Morpeth’s charity, Tyneside and Northumberland Mind.

Entry is by ticket only – tickets are available from the venue, Morpeth Town Hall or the Mighty Oaks coffee wagon.

Doors open at 7pm. You can dance the night away until midnight to the disco after the band.

Walking the Wansbeck to remember the 10th anniversary of the major Morpeth flood will take place on Saturday morning.

Beginning at Lowford Bridge at 10.30am, those who go along will follow the river, stopping briefly at points to remember, reflect, and pray for those whose lives were touched by flood and its consequences.

The walk will end at East Mill at about noon.

Monks in the Park family fun in Carlisle Park on Saturday from 10am to 4pm will include craft activities, helping Bishop Chris to put together his prayer and monk-related activities.

Refreshments are provided, children must be accompanied by an adult.

A sing-along screening by Morpeth Cinema Club of the 80s classic Grease is being shown at St James’ Church on Saturday, starting at 7.30pm.

Free tickets, if any are still available, need to be collected from The Chantry.

As well as grabbing a hot drink from the Mighty Oaks coffee wagon, you can meet one of three bishops who will be giving away free bacon butties.

They will be there between 11pm and 1am.
