More than 300 adults and children from Morpeth signed a giant birthday card to express their thanks to the NHS.

It was presented to Shirley Wakefield, associate nurse director, and a group of staff from St George’s Park, which is part of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust – a provider of mental health and disability services – by Tom Cosh, vice chairman for the Morpeth and Pegswood Labour Party.

Within two hours of standing in the town centre, the card to mark the 70th anniversary of the service was full.

Residents shared their heartfelt stories of care that they or their family had received to reflect the dedication and compassion of the people working in the NHS.
