TONIGHT is the night that unsung heroes will be honoured in the Pride of Northumberland awards.
Organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the Morpeth Herald and sister papers the Northumberland Gazette, News Post Leader and Tweeddale Press’s Berwick Advertiser, the awards highlight the extraordinary lengths that ordinary people go to.
Tonight, in a ceremony at Alnwick Garden, the winners of this year’s event will be announced.
Anna Foster, from Metro Radio, will be compere, with sponsors of each of the ten categories — Child of Courage, Child of Achievement, Community Group, Safer Community, Community Champion, Role Model, Fundraiser of the Year, Sporting Achievement, Student/Learner of the Year and Green Champion — presenting awards.
Morpeth Herald Editor Paul Larkin said: “It will be a really good night and I’m sure there will be tears when some of the stories are read out. The awards are important because they give those who normally hide in the background the chance to chance to stand in the limelight for a while.”
A supplement with all the winners and runners-up will be included in next week’s Herald.
