The company behind the electricity supply for the region has picked up a top award.
Northern Powergrid, which delivers power to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, has won a prestigious award in the special Digital Excellence category at the North of England Excellence Awards.
The electricity distribution company won the award for its work to research and listen to customers’ needs and use its findings to create new digital enhancements, such as its online power cut reporting service, to improve customers’ online experience.
Emma Cottle, Northern Powergrid’s digital services manager, said: “This award is a fantastic achievement.
“It shows how far we’ve come in digital communications and making it integral to the way we work every day to support our customers.
“We listened to our customers so we could create a website that has meeting their needs at its heart.
“Whether they want to report a power cut, learn about investments in their community, or organise a new connection to our network, we’ve made it easier.
“The boom in smart technology means more and more customers are choosing to contact us through digital channels.
“This year more than 50 per cent of our customers contacted us through our digital services, including some 780,000 visits to our website, northernpowergrid.com.
“Our 24 hour social media channels are also more popular than ever, giving customer a freedom of choice about how they want to communicate with us.
“Being a North of England Excellence Award winner is independent recognition that the time and resources we have invested are delivering a better online experience for our customers.”
