Team Sky’s Elia Viviani won today’s first stage of the 2015 Aviva Tour of Britain, which arrives in Northumberland on Wednesday.

The Italian takes the yellow jersey after outsprinting Britain’s Mark Cavendish with Germany’s Andre Greipel taking third.

Ireland’s Connor Dunne, who was involved in a breakaway that was caught with less than 2km to go, took the sprinter’s jersey after taking the most points from the intermediate sprints on the 177.7km route from Angelsey to Wrexham.

King of the Mountains is headed by Kristian House, while Manxman Cavendish won the best British rider award. He will also wear the points jersey tomorrow, when the tour heads to Lancashire, as Viviani is leading, but will be wearing yellow.
