Touting for talent in county festival

Plans are underway for a brand new free outdoor music festival in Blyth this summer, showcasing the best of Northumberland talent alongside big household names.

The 2014 Northumberland Live music festival will take place at Blyth Links on Saturday, August 23, from noon until around 8pm.

Details of the headline act and the full stage programme will be announced in the coming weeks.

Budding Northumberland musicians will also have the opportunity to share the limelight via a countywide talent competition, organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the Morpeth Herald – which will take place in the weeks running up to the main event.

The Northumberland Live talent competition is looking for talented bands and musicians to enter and be in with a chance to perform on the festival stage.

This is fantastic opportunity for anyone living or working in Northumberland to get noticed and take their first steps in the music industry.

Nigel Walsh, service manager for design and culture for Northumberland County Council, said: “We are delighted to present the first Northumberland Live Festival at Blyth Links.

“It promises to be a great experience both for the audience and the performers.

“The accompanying Northumberland Live talent competition is a fabulous opportunity for our home-grown talent to perform locally in a festival atmosphere alongside some of the best in the business.

“We are hoping thousands of people will come along to support the festival and enjoy the free entertainment.”

To take part in the Northumberland Live Talent competition, entrants must live or work in Northumberland or at least one member of the group should live and work in the county.

Entries, which should be submitted via Youtube and be no longer than three minutes, are welcome from all genres of music. For full terms and conditions and to enter visit
