Transport priorities are set by councillors

Providing a zebra crossing at Sanderson Arcade is the top transport priority for town councillors.

Members of Morpeth Town Council’s Planning and Transport Committee have highlighted the need for a crossing at the centre near Morpeth Bus Station, where there is a natural flow of pedestrians.

The issue was identified as the authority’s number one priority in the Local Transport Plan Programme for 2015-16.

The second priority was to provide a car parking area at All Saints First School, and the third was to install a bollard at the bottom of Newgate Street to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement and obstructing views of the crossing.

Coun David Parker said: “I certainly think we should be making significant suggestions where they are going to benefit a reasonable number of people.”
