A MOTORCYCLIST has died after an accident near Belsay.
Andrew Turnbull, 45, of Wallsend, died after his bike left the southbound carriageway on the A696 and collided with a sign.
The accident happened on Sunday, at about 1.55pm.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and Mr Turnbull was taken to the RVI in Newcastle, but died of his injuries.
The road was closed for around four hours while investigations were carried out.
