Road crash man dies

A MAN has died after a road accident near Morpeth.

Mark Pearson, 45, of Pottery Bank, died after his car was involved in a collision with a motorbike on the A697 at Heighley Gate on Saturday, at about 11.45am.

Both Mr Pearson and the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries. They were airlifted to Newcastle’s RVI by the Great North Air Ambulance, but Mr Pearson later died.

The motorcyclist is still recovering in hospital.

Sergeant Jason Ryder said: “This has been a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the injured man.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward to police to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.”

Anyone who was in the area at the time or witnessed the collision is asked to contact police motor patrols on 101.
