Three people injured in tractor and van collision

THREE people were taken to hospital after a van overturned in the Northumberland countryside.

The accident happened near Matfen shortly before 3pm on Monday when a van and tractor collided on a country road.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to assist emergency services and a GNAAS doctor attended the scene.

A 27-year-old man from the Durham area, who had been ejected from the van, was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by the Guardian of the North helicopter. He was treated for serious arm and head injuries, and his condition was described as stable.

Another two people from the van were transferred to hospital by road.
