“Well done”, I say, to Morpeth Mayor Andrew Tebbut for standing up for the protection of the trees at the entrance to the County Hall site in Loansdean.
I hope this means that Morpeth Town Council will give greater priority to the protection of trees when considering development plans.
Consider, for example, the well-established trees from the Terrace car park to the former library headquarters site. One would hope that any future development would respect these trees where possible, as was done in the past, and that where they cannot be saved, trees will be planted elsewhere in the town to balance the loss.
There is, after all, a range of local sites which could benefit from sensitive planting of appropriate trees.
