Tribute to the casualties of war

A solemn bell toll will be sounded to remember the casualties of the First World War.

A special commemoration event will be held at St James’s Church in Morpeth to remember the conflict 100 years after war broke out.

Activities include a flower festival and history display at the weekend, and a civic service at 10am on Sunday.

On Monday a Vigil Service will be held at 10pm. Afterwards, the church bell will be tolled 234 times in tribute to the 233 men listed on the church’s war memorial plaque and once for the Unknown Soldier.
