About 40 people from rural parishes attended a public meeting about broadband options for their area.

And following the discussions at Cambo Village Hall, which involved representatives from Northumberland County Council and BT, a working group has been established.

Residents from Cambo, Netherwitton, Rothley and Hollinghill and Nunnykirk are in this group – as is Coun Glen Sanderson, whose Longhorsley ward covers these parishes.

He said: “Some people in these areas have no internet and others only have very slow speeds.

“It was very worthwhile setting up the meeting as internet access and speeds are clearly very important issues for these communities.

“We will now get together with the county council to have a very detailed look about what may be available from other providers and other options.”
