Three engines were sent out to tackle the blaze in the Whorral Bank area between Morpeth and Pegswood yesterday afternoon.

A spokeswoman from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said that the call was received at just before 3pm and approximately 1,000 square metres of undergrowth and trees were alight.

The night team took over the operation yesterday evening and a fire out message was issued by the crew at the scene this morning at 9.38. It said the blaze had been dampened down by hose reel.

The spokeswoman added that no people were involved in the incident and there does not appear to be any injuries.
