‘We’re working on it’

ASSURANCES have been given that Northumberland County Council is continuing to lobby Government ministers and the Environment Agency over flood defences in Morpeth.

Speaking at the Area Committee North meeting on Monday, Coun Andrew Tebbutt said: “We are working very closely with all the other bodies in Morpeth to try and press the Environment Agency to find the necessary money to implement the Morpeth Flood Alleviation Scheme.

“The Leader has written to Caroline Spelman and also Nick Clegg. I think we are very aware that the Environment Agency is in a difficult position, but it is a very short-sighted policy not to fund this scheme, given the implications if it is not delivered.”
