Weather warning for parts of Northumberland

Members of the public have been urged to take caution by the Met Office, which has issued yellow weather warnings.

Clear spells this evening will allow temperatures to widely fall below freezing in places, leading to the risk of ice on untreated surfaces.

Meanwhile, further snow showers are expected in western and, more especially, northern parts of the warning area.

This warning is valid from 6pm this evening to 11am tomorrow morning.

The Met Office states: ‘Icy patches are expected to form on untreated surfaces this evening and overnight onwards into Sunday morning, especially where further snow showers occur after dark.

‘The public are advised to take extra care and be aware of the potential for some disruption to travel.’

In addition, strong winds are set to return to the North East on Monday.

The yellow warning is in place between 6am on Monday and 6am on Tuesday.

The Met Office states: ‘Southwesterly winds will strengthen later on Sunday to bring gale or severe gale force winds across many northern and central parts of the UK through Monday.

‘Gusts of 60-70mph are likely quite widely, with gusts to around 80mph possible, particularly in exposed parts of the north west in the region and perhaps locally to the east of high ground.

‘Please be aware of the risk of disruption to transport as well as power supplies.’
