Wendy Fail, 39, says she is looking forward to sailing and getting active again after the surgery ended her constant pain.

The Visitor and Education Centre Co-ordinator for Groundwork North East and Cumbria hurt her right hip during a training session for the Great North Run three years ago, with the increasing pain causing her to give up running and her love of sailing.

Wendy said: “I injured my hip whilst out running; that day my life changed. I went from being active to virtually sedentary overnight. I was miserable and in constant pain.”

After various treatments she sought advice from Nuffield Health Hospital in Newcastle, where she was referred to experienced orthopaedic surgeon Paul Partington.

An arthrogram scan showed a labral tear in the hip joint and she underwent a successful surgery to replace her full right hip.

Wendy said: “I’m still in the early stages of recovery, but things are steadily improving.

“I’m getting my life back, resuming normal activities. The care and support I’ve received has been outstanding.”
