Winner of contest to name retirement complex will get cheque bonus

Residents are being encouraged to enter a name the development competition that includes a financial prize.

It has been organised to mark construction getting under way at McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living scheme on the former Davidsons of Morpeth site, next to Telford Bridge.

As well as being granted the opportunity to attend the official opening, the person who comes up with the winning entry will also be awarded a cheque for £250.

Designed exclusively for the over 60s, the complex will offer a collection of 55 one and two-bedroom stylish apartments.

It was granted planning permission by a Northumberland County Council planning committee in a majority vote in February.

Liz Green, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone North East, said: “We’re looking for a name which will be relevant to the local community and it can be anything from suggestions honouring local heroes to those celebrating the history of the area.”
